Keep Improving HJT to Create the Future The Fourth Round-Table Meeting of High-Efficiency HJT 740W+ Club Concluded Successfully

In the rapid development of China's photovoltaic industry, heterojunction (HJT), as an emerging technology, with its excellent

performance and potential, is gradually leading the future of green energy. On July 19, 2024, the fourth round-table meeting of HJT 740W+ Club was successfully held in Shanghai. The industrial elites in the field of HJT were present at

the meeting, and deeply analyzed the current industry development, market policies, technology pattern and other issues,

and prospectively laid out the future development direction in HJT technology.




Keep improving HJT technology to lead the future, the fourth round-table conference of HJT 740W+ Club was held by QW Solar as the rotating chairmanship, where thirteen enterprises and top-ranking industrial experts were present, including Anhui Soltrend Energy, Anhui Huasun Energy, Risen Energy, Guangdong Mingyang Photovoltaic, Guangdong QW Solar, Grand Sunergy Tech, Golden Solar, Leascend PV, Shanghai Electric, Tongwei Co. Ltd., CNBM Jetion Solar, Zhejiang Winhitech New Energy, Zhuhai SoleFiori Technology (sorted by initial of pinyin). The meeting focused on the formulation of testing standards, development strategy and policy orientation, cost optimization and efficiency improvement, Topcon technical information exchange and 0BB technology and other key topics in HJT industry, which were discussed deeply at the meeting. The participants actively shared insights and opinions, and jointly explored new approaches to technological innovation and market expansion, injecting new vitality into the extensive application and   commercialization process of HJT technology.


At present, with the increasing maturity of domestic HJT-related technologies and the continuous improvement in the localization level of equipment and materials, the HJT industry has entered a period of rapid production capacity expansion, and also a stage of fierce market competition. Mr. Chu Yifan, Chairman of QW Solar, presided over the round-table meeting and pointed out in the opening remarks that, "the original intention of 740W+ Club Alliance is to better develop HJT. HJT should not, as one of the new productive forces, be involved into the vicious circle of "price war" by backward productivity! In the face of complex market environment, the enterprises ought to focus on the technical level, enhance competitiveness with hard power, and gradually increase market share. The prerequisite for us to run business is to aim at profiting, which is the essence of our long-term and everlasting development." ”

Jointly Establish Standards for Accurate Testing to Promote Healthy Development of the Industry

HJT, as an emerging photovoltaic cell technology, has gradually been applied in mass production in recent years, and the industry's research on its performance evaluation and test methods is not sufficient yet, leading to discrepancies in testing standards among various testing institutions. In the industry there has always been a relatively low standard HJT power test value, so it is urgent and necessary to launch a new set of testing standards and demonstration rates which are highly accurate and   in line with the industry requirements.   This problem needs to be solved with the joint efforts of all players in the industry, by strengthening cooperation, improving testing capacity, enhancing supervision and promoting technological innovation and implementation of other measures, so as to promote the healthy and orderly development of HJT technology.


Mr. Li Weichun, Vice President of Global Power Electronic Product Service and General Manager of Solar and Commercial Product Service in Greater China of TÜV Rheinland, Mr. Gao Qi, technical expert of Solar and Commercial Product Service in Greater China of TÜV Rheinland, and Mr. Xiong Limin, chief metrology engineer of National Institute of Metrology, were present at the exchange meeting and share cutting-edge testing and certification standards.


At the meeting, on the HJT module power testing solution, Mr. Xiong proposed that, "metastability problem tends to occur in HJT module power testing, so we hope that more enterprises do this experiment along with us to share more data and consistency, and later promote the standards of the National Institute of Metrology to make it association, industrial or even national standards as soon as possible." ”


Mr. Li Weichun said that, "as for technological innovation, HJT is a mature technology approach with the most potential. Now we all need to make efforts together to verify and embody the true level of HJT. First, it is necessary to develop a set of standards consistent in terms of performance testing and power measurement. Secondly, it is necessary to do well in reliability to ensure the long-term stability of HJT technology in practical applications." ”


Mr. Gao Qi further commented that, "Rheinland will provide a range of one-stop HJT measurement and testing solutions. We will promote the development of this technology by developing standards, and in addition, we will also work to increase the market recognition of the HJT technology and help companies and products gain the market position and trust they deserve through our professional testing and certification services." ”


Mr. Song Yifeng, Director of Product Center of Risen Energy, said that, "a consistent set of HJT testing standards will be greatly helpful for the production side of the enterprises, but we need to consider not only nationwide consistent measurement and testing standards, but also internationally consistent testing standards. At present, many foreign testing methods and testing means are different from those applied in China, so we need to work together to jointly promote the development of a consistent set of standards." ”


Mr. Liu Chang, the founder of Solarzoom, said that, "the measurement standards need to be formulated as what they ought to be. The previous standards were not established properly, affecting the development of the entire industry, but it is also improper to raise the standards for no reason. Next, on the one hand, we must make some efforts in the rationalization of the standards, and strive to get the power feed-back that we are supposed to acquire; on the other hand, what's more important is to, firstly, at the product side, reduce production cost and improve product efficiency, and secondly, to focus on the market promotion from a comprehensive view." ”


Mr. Xu Xin, Senior Vice President of Anhui Huasun Energy pointed out that,   "the HJT module power testing standards is the focus of our recent work, and we hope to reach an industry consensus on this issue, as a consistent set of module testing standards is beneficial to the promotion of the entire industry or HJT technology. ”

Favorable Policy and Top-Level Design Adjustment to Promote Industrial Optimization and Upgrading  

On July 15, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially ended the public solicitation of comments on the Specifications for Photovoltaic Products Manufacturing Industry (Version 2024) and Regulations on Photovoltaic Products Manufacturing Industry Specification Announcement Management   (Version 2024)" (draft for solicitation of comments). The government gave a hand timely to promote the optimization and upgrading of the whole industrial chain.   In the process of promoting the development of high-efficiency heterojunction (HJT) cell technology as one of   the typical new productive forces, the government has taken a variety of specific and powerful actions   to facilitate its commercialization process and enhance its market competitiveness.


At this meeting, Mr. Gao Fei, President of Grand Sunergy Tech, gave an analysis on the market and policy orientation for HJT industry. Since the beginning of this year, more and more central state-owned enterprises have set up HJT as a separate bid section, which, on the one hand, marks that the technical advantages of HJT products are getting more market recognition; on the other hand, also reflects the strong support of the state for the development of HJT industry. 740W+ Club ought to, taking the advantage of both the market orientation and national policies, actively promote the influence and cohesion of the HJT industry, strengthen the communication with relevant governmental agencies and financial institutions, increase its resistance to risks in HJT industry, and steadily and reliably boost the cost reduction and technology research approaches, so as to promote HJT technology to become a representative of new productive forces in the photovoltaic industry. The year 2025 will be a key stage to determine whether HJT can become the next mainstream technology in the industry. We ought to continue vigorously increasing the market share of the industry, and work together to expand and enhance HJT industry chain, meet the market demands, and facilitate the technology upgrading in the photovoltaic industry.


Mr. Qiu Wenkai, Executive General Manager of Guangdong Mingguang Photovoltaic Industry   Co., Ltd., said that,   "among the state's recent policies on the new-type power reform and new energy, one states that the government is the first party responsible for energy saving and carbon reduction, and in the assessment of investment attraction projects, also need to evaluate energy saving and carbon reduction indicators. The extremely low carbon footprint in HJT production is also an clear breakthrough in the specific applications of HJT. In addition, Mingyang Photovoltaic is promoting the joint   implementation of photovoltaic + system with the government to boost energy saving and carbon reduction and the promotion of HJT market."


Mr. Tang Doudou, Vice President of Leascend PV said that, "at the state level, the photovoltaic industry needs to participate in stiff competition, but also is very optimistic about the field of HJT. We can make the central state-owned enterprises more intuitively understand and more adequately trust HJT industry by sharing more empirical cases with them.:”


Mr. Li Changhong, CEO of Zhuhai SoleFiori Technology, said that, "HJT-based enterprises should further strengthen publicity, firmly link HJT with new productive forces, so that the government and the public will have an in-depth understanding of HJT technology. In addition, I also propose that the follow-up discussion groups can be further subdivided into technology, market and finance for different sectors. ”

Dual-Channel Driver between Technology and Market to Reduce Cost and Improve Efficiency  

In the strategy of cost reduction and efficiency improvement in HJT technology, cost control is the key to determine whether a technology commercialization process will succeed or fail. The participants shared their innovative practices in process optimization, equipment upgrading and supply chain management, and presented how to effectively reduce production costs and enhance product competitiveness by the combination of technological progress and marketing strategies. In addition, this conference launched an in-depth discussion from the perspective of the technical path, the conversion efficiency of HJT and perovskite-based products, comparing the latest progress in BC cells and TOPCon technology, and the in-depth cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the industry led by 0BB as a black technology. The participating entrepreneurs stressed the importance of information sharing in boosting collaborative innovation across the entire industry chain. By strengthening the communication and cooperation between upstream and downstream enterprises, the market players will achieve an optimal solution to efficiency improvement and cost reduction, jointly overcome technical difficulties, and provide new technical perspectives and solutions for the photovoltaic industry.


Mr. Chu Yifan, Chairman of QW Solar, pointed out that, "as the market grows, the customized capacity of cells in large-scale mass production may be insufficient. As for equipment manufacturers, 0BB has the advantage of cost reduction and efficiency improvement, but the current module manufacturers are concerned about the 0BB patents, so also hope that the application specification for the technology can be put into practice." ”


Mr. Ma Yiwei, Vice President of Solarzoom, said that, "0BB technology involves efficiency improvement on the one hand, and cost reduction on the other. When the efficiency improvement is achieved, the cost reduction will be realized even further. The Club can accelerate the exploration for various 0BB technology routes, including promoting more 0BB products to the market in the process of discussing promotion with the central enterprises as end users, and the cost will be naturally cut down. ”


Mr. Ni Zhichun, General Manager of Zhejiang Winhitech New Energy, proposed that,   "in the current context, we will take the advantage of the time cycle, and in addition to resource integration, preferentially speed up quickly, whether the efficiency of 0BB or any other technology. We must accelerate to expand the difference with TOPCon."   ”


Mr. Tang Doudou, Vice President of Leascend PV said that, "the core of cost reduction is to achieve full production capacity. At present, all players are very concerned about the technical route of HJT, and so I suggested that the club member enterprises can use empirical data to compare efficiency and attenuation, and tell the true cost reduction, whether in technology side, sales side or market side. ”


Mr. Zhao Xuewen, Chairman of Anhui Soltrend Energy, said that, "we ought to establish the scheme identifying the real costs and the scheme improving module efficiency in place, to really achieve leap-type low-cost and high-power products, actually embodying the true new productive forces. To this end, the member enterprises need to really achieve technology sharing and resource sharing." ”


Mr. Xu Xin, Senior Vice President of Anhui Huasun Energy said that, "HJT, as a differentiated product, can be delivered via differentiated product channels for different types of customers, so as to expand the application market, especially overseas markets, and provide the most competitive solutions."


Mr. Zhang Bojing, Director of Marketing Center, Shanghai Electric Hency Solar Technology, said that, "all enterprises should work together to share resources, fully reflecting the technical superiority of HJT, so that the public will have tangible experience of it, and thus HJT will win more trust and value."


Mr. Long Wei, Chief of Cell Development Division, Photovoltaic Technology Center of Tongwei, said that, "we believe HJT ought to become a mainstream technology, and become a technology that can compete with TOPCon in a large environment. We are exploring to solve problems in silver and indium, and by the end of this year, we will find out a clear direction of expansion in silver-coated copper, and even copper plating. "


Mr. Qiu Wenkai, Executive General Manager of Guangdong Mingguang Photovoltaic Industry Co., Ltd., pointed out that, "Mingyang is planning an actual program, not only sales program in the bulk commodities for carbon tracking added value, but also for the stability of photovoltaic and wind power, is developing HJT-dedicated steady-state power system, so as to achieve new breakthroughs."

Raw and Auxiliary Materials, Key to Stable Supply Chain

In response to the latest developments in raw and auxiliary materials, the seminar emphasized the importance of stable supply chain for the sustainable and healthy development of the photovoltaic industry. The participants discussed factors affecting raw material price fluctuations, as well as how to guarantee stability and security of the supply chain by means of diversified procurement, technological innovation and strategic cooperation, so as to ensure the continuity and cost performance of photovoltaic product production.


Mr. Song Ye, Vice Marketing President of Golden Solar, said that,   "all club member enterprises can trust and support each other to get through the supply chain. If there is any difficulty with module-side supply chain, the module manufacturer can entrust the cell production to a peer company, so that the financial pressure along the supply chain will be shared, and relevant order will be completed with joint efforts."


Mr. Ma Yiwei, Vice President of Solarzoom, proposed that, "there was once   very large price difference among the enterprises. Therefore, from the perspective of the supply chain, I hope 740W+ Club will give play to its power to negotiate with suppliers as a whole, which will be beneficial to the entire industry. ”


Mr. Guo Wanwu, deputy general manager of CNBM Jetion Solar, said that, "at present, the technical standards applied by the enterprises have relatively large differences with each other, including those in technical routes, quality criteria, test water levels, so we can communicate with each other and discuss the technical links. In addition, third-party institutions will pay attention to the rationality of the test from the perspective of power generation, so that the optimal solution to cost control in the entire standard side will be found."


The successful holding of the fourth round-table meeting of the HJT 740W+ Club not only presents the strong strength of China's photovoltaic industry in technological innovation and market expansion, but also reflects the close cooperation and open sharing spirit within the industry.
